I’ve always loved bright colors. When I was 6 I convinced my parents to wallpaper my entire bedroom with a floral Monet print—thousands upon thousands of repeated yellow, blue, purple, and pink flowers. On all four walls. When I was 8 or 9, disco became my obsession. I plastered my room with yellow smiley faces, LED lights, and mirrored balls, and blasted KC and the Sunshine Band on the reg.

My love of color stuck with me into my design career, and I couldn’t help but add large splashes on everything I created. Lime, yellow, lavender, neon orange—nothing was ever off limits to me.

In the last two years, however, I have felt the desire to tone it down. Sometimes an all black ensemble feels calming—a way for me to blend into my surroundings so that I can remain as flatlined as possible. That had me wondering whether I was changing my taste or just feeling like my light had dulled from the insanities of the last couple of years.

In my reliably-restless state, I was craving to knit something that actually resembled a garment. If you remember my posts of yore, I have stuck to accessories and/or square/rectangle based accoutrements. These felt doable to me. But as a lover of fashion with an eye on the knitwear gracing the runways these days, I wanted to step up my game.

ENTER THE SWEATER VEST.

My coworker, friend, and personal yarn guru Allison Volek Shelton introduced me to PetiteKnit some time ago and I really loved the ease and sophistication of her designs. Her Holiday Slipover seemed like the perfect thing to get me started knitting garments.

I had been wanting to use our Atlas yarn since it landed in our warehouse, and—held double—it was a perfect fit for this project. I felt hesitant when it came to choosing the color.

Did I really want a chunky oversized sweater vest in a loud color? Would I feel too exposed? Embarrassed? Uncomfortable? All of these feelings could be true, but something deep inside of my little Ashley soul was begging for some light.

And so the Citron Sweater Vest was born. A gushy, mushy, unapologetic FIRST knitted garment to brighten my life and wardrobe. If you’re in the Nashville area and you see something in your peripheral that resembles someone that rhymes with Fig Fird that’s me.

I think it’s okay to search out a reason to feel brave and this was it for me. I needed a push to feel okay being visible in the world. And THAT, my friends, is the magic of fashion.

A Giveaway!

The prize? Two skeins of Atlas—winner’s choice of color(s)—and a copy of Field Guide No. 9: Revolution to add some fashion magic to your wardrobe with Norah Gaughan’s Ironworks Beret. Here it is in Mouse:

  • Merlot. Not a typical “bright” but it has a rich glow.

  • “Pear” for me too!

  • Because it’s officially fall, Clementine! However, I’ve tried before to choose one or two favorite Atlas colors and it just can’t be done, I love them all! If I ever purchase a lottery ticket and if that ticket turns out to be a winner, my plan for the windfall is to purchase a minimum of 10 skeins of every, single, color of Atlas, lol!

  • Cedar & Mallard- it’s fall after all

  • For me it would have to be clementine and mallard. I really love your yellow top though. Congratulations on your first clothing item. It’s addictive so I will look forward to the next thing you make 🙂

  • Mallard is beautiful!

  • Mallard or Cedar!

  • Pear has intrigued me since it’s debut, and merlot for the fall vibes!

  • I am in love with Mallard.

  • Really difficult choice … but definitely Pear!

  • Pear and lapis

  • Clementine, because leaves are just beginning to turn “clementine color” where I am, air getting cooler. I love this time of year; the orange leaves, and orange pumpkins I’m beginning to see are so delightful! A hat and/or cowl knit in this color would be a celebration.

  • Barn red please!

  • Mallard and Seaglass – those blue/green colors always speak to me.

  • Wintergreen! I like bright, too.

  • Lapis and Citron immediately leaped out at me, and I’ve used them in an Erika Knight Scrap Tote. But I’m now using Navy as the main color on a Cider Mill pullover, and it’s perfect.

  • Peat and clementine. Does this mean I am moody or just channeling my Grandma?

  • Clementine and truffle!

  • Barn red would make my heart soar!

  • OOPS! Posted to a comment, sorry.

Clementine, to match my Happy Fall and lots of knitting state of mind.

  • Mallard popped out for me right away.

  • Barn Red is my top color and Tutu would be second!

  • Barn red and clementine make me happy!

  • The 2 colors of Atlas which are beckoning me right now are Pear and Whisper. Yummy!

  • orange….always

  • Mallard is jumping out at me. It would be lovely paired with Leek! (Although there are at least six other shades that I was also finding tempting.)

Also, your vest reminds me of my favorite handknit garment: a lacy skirt in a bright yellow cotton. It’s just the thing for a dreary day. Or a sunny day. Anytime!

  • Shale and sea glass are my favorites.

  • Just finished the Cushiest Cowl using Peat and Natural. Figured the contrast would help me try brioche and it did. Loved it!

    • Navy would be grand.

  • Seaglass is so pretty, you can pair it with calm colors or with bold colors, and it’s beautiful all by itself.

  • I just love, love the CORK (ok, everyone, I’ll wait while you go back to stare at it) and would work it into something lovely with the BARN RED!

  • Whisper for me!

  • Lapis or Merlot

  • Mallard or pear!

  • Barn Red. Red has always been a favourite colour and if we’re talking splashes of colour, red all the way!

  • I love all the colors, but merlot is in my wheelhouse.

  • Seamless!

  • As the person who puts every single skein of Atlas into the boxes you allllll receive _ seriously, I have handled more of it than ANYONE ON THE PLANET – I’m telling you: don’t sleep on Cedar and Navy.

    • Thank you!!! ❤

  • Pear!

  • Truffle! And Peat is a close second!

  • Hard to believe it’s your first knitted project – congratulations. I love vests – they keep your body warm, but arms and hands free and able to move. And the yellow is a powerful pop! I love colour too.

  • Skyline please and thank you!

  • Truffle and sea glass. They’re both beautiful alone and I think they would be great together.

  • Barn Red of course!

  • Probably Seaglass

  • I would like light green and med green

  • I would love something in Pear.

  • Oooohhhh……color…..I’m beginning to add dashes to m y normal black and blue that I’ve worn forever. The clementine would be oh so perfect

  • With fall weather finally here, Clementine!

  • Wintergreen has always called out to me, but right now it’s Clementine. My high school colors were that juicy orange and white, but I’ve not had anything that color since. Maybe it’s time for a hat!

  • Barn red for sure

  • tutu, i believe!

  • It’s Shale and Pebble for me to sooth my soul

  • Love merlot!

  • I love lapis and mallard.

  • Merlot & Peat. I love bold but earthy colors.

  • While I feel ANY two colors of Atlas would be wonderful, at this very moment, Pebble and Merlot are yelling the loudest.

  • Any gem tone

  • Lapis has been calling my name since I first saw it. Imagine having the bluest of summer sky blues for a winter hat!

  • Lapis would add a pop to my wardrobe.

  • Tutu. I’m always a sucker for baby pink.

  • I would chose Lapis. Blue is my favorite color and it would get me to change it up from navy or less vibrant blue shade.

  • Love the vest, love that you are visible! Love that there are other people that love COLOR instead of shades of gray. I’ve had my eye on Wintergreen for a while.

  • Pear & Navy for me. A classic combination of color.

  • Oh, pebble and whisper…feeling understated

  • Would love to use Seaglass in a pattern!! I absolutely love that color and Atlas yarn!

  • Inspired by you, I’d say Barn Red, Lapis, or Clementine. Left to my own devices, probably Cedar, Shale, or Merlot.

  • Leek calls to me

  • Pear and clementine… not because fall is on the way. I would also add in the mallard and barn red because I like to use ALL the colors! I admire your choice of wallpaper!

  • Cedar – I usually lean toward shades like merlot and peat but this looks so warm and cuddly and still bright, Hey look at me!

  • Truffle and seaglass

  • Pear, Mallard. Hats are a great way to use color!

  • Pear!

  • Love barn red!

  • Lapis and pebble (and I love your vest—it makes me smile).

  • Seaglass. The color, the name both speak calm and peace to me.

  • Mallard and Tutu look great! But it is SOOOO difficult to select only one. Or two. Or ten!

  • I love mallard and triffle

  • Leek, I have been dreaming of this color of late.

  • My eye was immediately caught by Lapis

  • Clementine and mallard, my happy colors

  • I’m in a barn red or clementine mood right now.

  • Barn Red and Sea Glass look appealing.

  • I’ve been eyeing truffle and navy- those deep, dark colors that aren’t giving up any secrets. Usually I go for brighter colors, so this is new.

  • I’m into the blues right now, skyline or navy.

  • It is a tie between Seaglass and Lighthearted Mallard. They will make a wonderful beret.

  • Love your vest. My friends have taunted me to move beyond my Pastel Patty nickname. Could I be daring enough to pick wintergreen and citron which are so bright? I normally would pick a mint green and a pale yellow.

  • Barn red and clementine!

  • Merlot and lapis. But they’re all beautiful!

  • Lapis would be my go to colour as it reminds me of the cornflowers I sowed in Spring, they have just become beautiful white star shaped seed heads.

  • Pear or citron ❤️

  • Clementine. Have always loved bright colors and use them almost every time I knit.

  • I’m drawn to Mallard every time I look at the Atlas color chart. Every freaking time.

  • Clementine and lapis are irresistible at first glance, but also Mallard and Pear and Seaglass and Tutu..Clearly I am a color lover myself!

  • Cedar and peat would be my choice

  • Mallard! Blue-greens and turquoises always get to me.

  • Today, cedar or mallard are speaking to me

  • Clementine and Barn Red

  • Shale for me, boring I know.

  • Mallard, mallard, mallard … my hands seem to reach for shades of deep blue- green all the time, so much so that my sister laughs at me every time we are in a yarn shop.

  • I get really itchy and nervous around color. My idea of a colorful garment is the Cider Mill sweater pictured in a previous article (look at all that color–do I have anything in the closet that goes with it?). But, if I were forced to choose, I’d pick the merlot. It looks warm and inviting without being too brash.

  • Like Ashley, I wonder with every garment whether to go loud or quiet with color. All the clothes in my closet are quiet (black, gray, navy, white) so when I knit garments I usually want a splash of color. Also, I dont want to get bored knitting a sweater, which takes me months to finish. Barn Red in Atlas looks like it could do the trick – a bold but go-with-everything color.

  • Shale and Mallard!

  • Barn red. Love it.

  • Lapis! My winter jacket needs a new beret.

  • Oh that Clementine really caught my eye!

  • Mallard would be just ducky!

  • Mallard & Pear………
I knit the Blanket of Joy for my sisters 50th wedding anniversary gift, so I have been lucky enough to use every single color, these 2 colors became two of my favorites! LOVE THIS YARN!

  • mallard

  • Lapis and mallard! Love these 2 and would enjoy knitting them in to something exciting!

  • Mallard for me and Citron for my granddaughter, who’s LOVED yellow all her 8 years!

  • I would use lapis and add some sequins for the Holidays.

  • Wintergreen and clementine. I love near- complimentary color pairings!

  • Beautiful vest!! I’ll pick Pear and Lapis.

  • Today, Mallard fits my mood.

  • Lately I’m tired of all the black staples in my wardrobe-so enter color. Which is reflected in my stash.
Brava! When I started knitting in earnest ages ago, I made several vests …
Love me yellows and purples and my fave pink!

  • Definitely Pear … So out of my comfort zone but I love it!

  • Lapis!!! Oh, my heart, that’s fabulous.

  • Mallard Lapis citron oh my!

  • Sea Glass + Shale is the most delicious combo in my mind!

  • I need Barn red and Pebble for the cowl that I will design…

  • Leek and Cedar are speaking to me today.

  • Lapis!

  • Although I love all the colours; today whisper and cedar are calling to me.

  • Citron and tutu are my favs today.

  • It’s Peat and Mallard for me.
Ask me tomorrow and I’ll probably have a different combo in my heart.

  • Clementine! Beauty, warmth and thoughts of Fall.

  • Gotta have Tutu and Merlot!

  • Lapis!

  • Wintergreen and mallard

  • Sea glass all the way!

  • Lapis and Skyline

  • Wintergreen looks like a perfect choice for me.

  • I think the Ironworks beret would look elegant in Sky Blue!

  • I’ve been drifting toward Cedar lately – but for a hat, maybe pear or seaglass

  • Since I don’t see a purple, I’d probably pick mallard. Thank you for the encouragement to knit a farment.

  • pear and peat suitably seasonal

  • Barn RED, what a wonderful color to brighten a cold day!

  • Sea glass or anything lighter than this… The photo of the beret is great and shows the genius of Norah’s cables… Her cables are always a pleasure to look at and to appreciate their intricacies!

  • Pear

  • lovely vest! now to pick (only) 2 colours: wintergreen & skyline.

  • Barn Red would be perfect right now.

  • Leek and mallard for this shy person.

  • Clementine and Pear. Love the colors (and the fruits).

  • I’m usually drawn to blues, purples, and grays, but cedar looks beautiful!

  • Merlot! I’m always ready for a sip or more…

  • Peat!

  • Teal is my go-to, so some Atlas in Mallard would help me expand my wardrobe to go all-teal, all day, every day!

  • How perfect to wake up to Ashley’s piece this Sunday morning. I would knit this vest in Pear and take a deep breath and wear it over my black wardrobe.

  • Lapis!

  • it is a foggy morning, and BarnRed would be perfect for it!

  • Congratulations on your first garment, Ashley. Seaglass would be my winter hat choice. Lovely pattern.

  • Merlot and mallard!

  • Truffle

  • You wear it well, as Rod once sang. I literally chuckled the photo with your hands sticking out of the bottom. 🙂

  • Truffle and Pear. This combination could be interesting!

  • Every single color!! But, if forced to choose just one-barnyard red it is

  • I love all the colors too! Right now I’m wanting to knit Old Friend in Cedar and Joji’s Grace pullover in Shale. Love your yellow vest!

  • Cedar is beautiful!

  • Well — almost any of them, really. But today let’s say peat and sea glass.

  • It would have to be clementine.

  • Pear

  • Lapis is certainly a bright color in a very good way but I think for me barn red is my favorite.

  • Seaglass and Mallard – wonderful colors. A color I would have liked to have seen, though, was some shade of grey, light to medium. Goes with everything.

  • I just finished the Ironworks Beret in Atlas. Good pairing! For colors calling me, I’d say Mallard and Clementine.

  • Bright yellow is it for me these days too — Bring on the Citron!

  • I love bright colors; I am going to knit my first cardigan this fall. I too have mostly knit shawls and dish cloths, etc. My favorite Atlas colors are Lapis and Citron.

  • Tough choice! Have to go with Cedar and Merlot for that fall feeling.

  • I crave a clementine beret.

  • Seaglass and cedar

  • I love them all! Cedar, Merlot, Peat and Pebble would be stunning colors for the Beret!

    • Wow…I too have stepped into bold bright colors and Atlas Red has my eye!!!

  • Ashley, congratulations on your first garment! Yay!

Atlas has such a wide palette, doesn’t it – soft to loud. I’ve been looking at lapis ever since Atlas came out.

  • Barn Red! Perfection.

  • Wintergreen or citron

  • Merlot! Wait.. maybe Cedar. On the other hand, maybe Pear. Wonderful, beautiful colors.

  • Hmm….so many good choices! Citron of course (yellow is always my favourite), Clementine, and Lapis, I think. Things always seem to come in threes for me.

    • …and Nora Gaughan is a genius. Just sayin’.

  • Merlot or Mallard.

  • At the moment I am uncertain about what project I would knit. And there is not much contrast among my choices, but tutu and skyline are calling out my name as I am feeling rather pastelie…..

  • One of each, pebble and navy….perfect combination

  • While I’m a “Shale” personality, I’d definitely go to “Barn Red” for a pop of color!

  • Navy and pebble, pls!

  • Seaglass, along with a neutral like Natural, for some mosaic knitting.

  • Winners choice you say? I can’t! I’m in LOVE with all the yarn colors.. it’s like saying pick your favorite child. YOU decide please. I’ll be happy

  • Seaglass and Tutu!!

  • Navy and lapis

  • Peat and cedar!!

  • Love your adventure in color! The beret in merlot is very nice. I like Clementine which would pair well with some natural light brown yarn I have in stash.

  • Cedar, I have always loved a rich brown!

  • I love all shades of green so peat and pear for me.

  • Pear is me! And mallard. Such fun!

  • Pear is my favorite on the Atlas palate. It pops.

  • I love lapis!

  • Cedar would absolutely do it for me. A dear friend recently described my style as dressing like licorice allsorts lolol so I’m toning it down ever so slightly 🙂

  • This was easy – I don’t care whose yarn it is – I always look to see if there is a Citron (acid yellow/lime green) available — that color always speaks to me. The next is Clementine – or something near to that shade of orange/rust. Then we move into other colors depending on mood.

  • Barn Red and Peat would knit up the lovely berets just dandy!

  • I just ordered Truffle for the Grace Notes Pullover, but for a splash of color, it’s got to be Lapis!

  • I hanker for lapis and wintergreen in a zing boom pow kind of way.

  • Mallard really resonates! And lapis is lovely…

  • Lapis and wintergreen!

  • Clementine! How fun!

  • shale and truffle

  • I know this isn’t a color, per se, but it’s a choice: Natural. That way, I could dye it into a variegated colorway which would be so fun. I love Atlas and would be thrilled to try this.

  • lapis – but with so many choices, I found it difficult to pick! That is one intense, luscious blue <3

  • If I could wear yellow, I would go whole hog for citron but sadly, no. I could use s skein of seaglass in my life since I haven’t made it to the beach this year.

  • Love seaglass

  • If I’m going to go bright, Lapis would do it for me. It has to be blue, most times.

  • So hard to pick but loving Peat.

  • Clementine for me! That is UT orange and not Texas orange, right?

  • I LOVE the CLEMINTINE color way – bright, and perfect for autumn knitting (and wearing all year!

  • Mallard for sure as it jumps right out at me, a second color is hard to choose but Barn Red I think fall colors being a favorite of mine

  • Navy on my mind!

  • Clementine and Pear. Love bright vibrant colors!

  • I love this commentary on how sometimes we just want to fade into the background, and sometimes we need to put ourselves out there! I would go with the lapis as my statement color. A refreshing pop!

  • I’m in with citron, too!

  • Right now the Merlot is speaking to me.

  • Tutu and whisper. There is never enough pink!

  • Merlot looks delicious to me!

  • Mallard something about it just calls to my soul. I love tutu as well but I’m slowly adding this shade to my closet myself.

  • Barn red. I also love navy and natural!

  • Truffle and Cedar, but there are so many right answers. Love that you went with Citron for your vest!!!

  • Merlot and mallard – as close to my favorites (raspberry and turquoise) as I can get in that yarn.

  • Lately, the Tutu is calling me and the merlot.

  • Merlot!!

  • Wintergreen!

  • Lapis. And Clementine. Together

  • I’d love to try the Barn Red and the Lapis.

  • This time of year I go gaga for all things pumpkin! Color choice would have to be clementine for me!

  • I love a clear, unsullied yellow. I would love to have some Citron in my wardrobe!

  • I’m into Mallard

  • Barn Red and or Truffle. Trying to brighten up the gloomy world view.

  • Wintergreen, both bold and calming

  • Clementine…orange pops all

  • Tutu!!!

  • Mallard makes me smile. Lapis brightens my spirit,

  • Merlot and clementine.

  • It’s Lapis for the win (for me) lol

  • Merlot and seaglass

  • Lovely soft whisper, soft, comforting. Pear for a shot of fun!
    Mwah!

  • Mallard and Clementine!

  • Lapis and Mallard are my favorites !

  • Oh I have been REALLY eager to work with Pear and Mallard. Love these!

  • Tutu would be wonderful! Takes me back to my childhood ballet classes!

  • Mallard – had a coat in sixth grade that was that color

  • Sea glass and mallard… blues to chase away the impending cold weather blues!

  • Lapis. It is my favorite shade of blue!

  • Mallard. Definitely mallard.

  • Atlas comes in such a beautiful range of colors! Today Tutu is calling to me.

  • Pear! Definitely, pear.

  • Mallard or whisper! Both gorgeous.

  • I really love truffle and shale, but for a pop of bright color I would definitely go for lapis or wintergreen.

  • Seaglass and merlot

  • Clementine, of course

  • I’m feeling skyline in a sweater with some navy as some color work fair isle.

  • There’s a brighter blue. Love it!

  • I could stand some clementine, darling.

  • So many gorgeous colors. Love Ashley’s yellow but yellow doesn’t do my complexion any favors as much as I love it so I think I’d go with Lapis for its versatility and richness. Unless, since it’s a holiday vest I went with Barn Red.

  • Oh, Lapis & Wintergreen, for sure. They’d be stunning together

  • Peat

  • Lapis and Wintergreen are calling to me today. Love the beautiful bright vest!

  • I know it’s not at all a “shouty” color, but I will never pass up a yarn (or candle) with Seaglass in the name!

  • Hopefully I could chose two different colors. It would have to be the barn red and the lapis.

  • Clementine for me, and Mallard – actually love all the colors, but if I HAVE to pick only two – Clementine and Mallard today.

  • Any blue (or 2). I’m always looking for colors that match my eyes (without the obvious contrasting pop of orange).

  • Barn red his both the exciting bright color vibe AND the cozy fall color vibe!

  • My brain says Peat, but my heart says Clementine.

  • A wintergreen vest feels right to me

  • Mallard and lapis for me!

  • Lapis and Mallard

  • It’s gotta be Seaglass!

  • I usually go with jewel tones and cool colors, but now that I’ve moved to California (from the Midwest), I’m feeling a need for lighter things — Leek and Whisper are calling to me!

  • Love that Wintergreen!

  • I am normally drawn to the warm colors but since I’ve let my hair grow out and stopped dyeing it during the pandemic, my salt and peppered natural color now leads me to the cooler color – so lapis or mallard!

  • Clementine

  • Barn Red! More reds! Lotsa reds!

  • Shale and seaglass for me.

  • Lapis or red but all the colors are beautiful & would be fun to work with.

  • Number 1 – Clementine! I love orange. Number 2 is harder – I think I love them all – Lapis? Pear? Truffle? Peat?

  • Barn red for fall. Or Lapis because I love it. Or maybe Sea Glass because it fits with my wardrobe so well.

  • I’m team Barn Red!!

  • Barn red and tutu are my favorites!

  • Barn Red

  • Love the Pear and Clementine colors….alone or maybe together!

  • Love the Wintergreen!

  • Cedar is my choice!

  • Love the Mouse color but my faves are Cedar and Merlot of this beautiful yarn.

  • Clementine for me.

  • Heyyyyyy Ashleyyyyyyy, it’s me at comment no. 399 chiming in to say that I love every single thing about this post, especially you in that vest. It’s, like, the cutest thing ever.

  • Cedar would bring warmth to my pallette

  • I don’t wear pink but Tutu is calling to me

  • Any color really but I’m going with Merlot for that fall feel. Closest to a ‘raspberry beret’ too.

  • Lapis and Clementine for my Florida Gators!

    • I’m longing to make something in seaglass…

  • I’ve had my eye on Lapis and Pear

    • So hard to select just one. Citron would be first to bring my personal sunshine to dark winter days. But other bright or light colors such as pear, leek, clementine, or barn red.

  • Definitely wintergreen! My eyes were drawn right to it.

  • Mallard, Seaglass, Leek, Peat – just give me all the greens!

  • I’m dreaming up a sweater in Pear and Wintergreen stripes.

  • Lapis or Skyline! Im actually making my 1st “Holiday Slipover” vest now! Cast on as a quick bday gift for my daughter. Love the pattern and would love to make one for me next!

  • Lapis and Clementine.

  • Clementine is what I would love to work with.

  • I have loved the Lapis color since day one.

  • Cedar’s the one for me

  • Wintergreen!

  • Peat and Cedar

  • Navy and shale

  • Tutu. What a great all season color!

  • Lapimall — Lapis and Mallard tied for first, although Tutmo— Tutu and Mouse would be tied for second!

  • Pear calls out to me, if not for the hat definitely for the holiday pullover and then some fall colors such as peat, barn red and cedar

  • Hard to choose! I’d go with Mallard–it’s blue! It’s green! It’s blue AND green!

  • Ahhh, Soothing Seas Glass and Tutu, please.

  • Seaglass! Or Tutu if I really want to pop!

  • I love the yellow, but I would go with Lapis or Clementine because those shades are so beautiful!

  • Seaglass or tutu with truffle!

  • Barn red and tutu! Hard to pick!

  • Barn red& sea glass are beautiful.

  • Mallard, for sure

  • Hmm Mallard, TuTu and if i knew what to do with it Clementine

  • I’m really attracted to the Seaglass. I think because it is different from any clothing I own. I wear bright colors and sometimes wonder if when I finally get approved for cataract surgery, if I will be surprised at how bright they actually are. The Sea glass yarn looks perfect.

  • Citron! Ike sunshine.

  • I’ve been lusting after Peat and Cedar, but Pear might be the 2nd choice for a real splash of color. And the soft Tutu would be perfect for legwarmers in ballet class this winter. I have brioche mitts almost finished in Clementine paired with a natural white wool from a local farm – but I have to go back to Peat and Cedar for the Ironworks beret.

  • Lately I’ve been craving color! Especially bright greenish yellow, just like PEAR

  • So many beautiful colours…but I am drawn to Mallard, and I also love the sample beret done in Mouse. Hard to choose!

  • Merlot or Barn Red.

  • Tutu – I often go for teens and blues but love this pink!

  • Mallard

  • I love the fall colors and clementine looks great to me!

  • Pear and seaglass…..I hear them calling me…

  • Mallard! Such a happy color

  • For that beret, I’d choose Seaglass, but for some reason Clementine is also calling to me.

  • Merlot

  • my favourite colours would be Truffle and Navy – both gorgeous!

  • Seaglass for me….a little calm, a little look at me.

  • Peat

  • Seaglass

  • Merlot, I just bought some new pants that merlot would go perfectly with.

  • Tutu and Leek

  • I am loving barn red, pear, clementine.

  • Lapis and pear. The lapis color reminds me of a dress I owned when I lived in Nashville about 25 years ago

  • Pear. So seventies, but bluer.

  • CLEMENTINE!!! I’ve gravitated to oranges ever since the end of the last presidential administration.

  • Seaglass!

  • Seaglass!

  • Clementine and Peat.

  • Lapis. <3

  • Clementine (oh mah darlin)!

  • Skyline

  • Lapis— that gorgeous vivid blue!

  • Merlot and seaglass

  • Barn Red, please!

  • Clementine, I love the bright orange. It would perfect for a beret and matching mittens to cheer up a dark winter day

  • Cedar and Pebble and Shale…and that Mallard!!!

  • Shake, truffle or lapis. Not ready for citron or the likes…

    • My happy picks: pear and tutu.

  • It’s between truffle and peat for me.

  • I love them all but Mallard draws me at the moment.

  • Good for you, Ashley! You do you. And I would choose the lush Peat.

  • My color choice would be Clementine. . .what a happy looking color!

  • Pear, Clementine, any color? Born and bred New Yorker, who left but still wears the black uniform!

  • Mallard. Or seaglass. Or leak. Or ALL of them- I’m supposed to pick one????

  • Pick one color of Atlas? Impossible!
But – okay I pick Cedar – which was my dog’s name in his litter before we brought him home.

  • You inspired me to brighten up, I choose pear!

  • Barn red. Or pear. Or sea glass.

  • Oh my darling Clementine. Love orange in autumn.

  • Clementine! I have absolutely nothing in my wardrobe in this color and need to jazz things up a bit.

  • Pear and Barn Red

  • I’d have to leap for citron and leek! What glorious, luminous colors and how un-fall, out-of-season. Gotta try Atlas.

  • Pear is the bright one for me

  • Oh my darling Clementine!! Love it!

  • Ooh they’re all so lovely and I’ve been wanting to try Atlas out. Wintergreen and Barn Red cause Christmas is coming!!

  • Mallard is speaking to me right now.

  • Seaglass – it’s lovely! But I’d be delighted with any of them. Thanks for such a wonderful giveaway!

  • Lapis and Seagrass!

  • To brighten up my wardrobe would need a hot pink, but Mallard would also do the job nicely!

  • I’m loving Pear and Tutu!!!!! Your vest is GORGEOUS!!!!!

  • Leek is calling to me. So calming.

  • Clementine and pear, please.

  • Barn red! I love a true red!

  • I love Truffle and Shale

  • I could really use a double dose of Pear.

  • When life gave me hot electric pink, I made a vest. I am WIBunky on Rav. You can see my finished project there. Even the flamingo I am holding was embarrassed because my vest is ‘pinker’.

  • Love that lapis!

  • Seems like I should make that vest! Love the inspirational story. Sea glass would brighten up my life nicely.

  • First, LOVE the vest, that’s the next thing on my list. Mallard and Seaglass are my two favorite Atlas colors. I would love to make something in either color (or both combined!).

  • I am not so loud and proud anymore and Pear is my jam…pun intended!

  • Merlot would be my choice.

  • I would pick sea glass + mallard to made Christmas gifts

  • Lapis (my color cmfort zone) or clementine (not my comfort zone, but so happy!)

  • Pear. I love it by itself and I love the way it shifts depending on what color is next to it.

  • Lapis is my very favorite.

  • Lapis and Peat. The color range of Atlas is inspiring. Thank you.

  • So many beautiful colors, but a teal-y Mallard is my jam.

  • Royal blue and that tangerine

  • I would go for Barn Red! Way outside my color box.

  • Barn Red and Mallard…together in a vest!

  • I LOVE the Lapis colorway, so rich and pretty!

  • Oh, I could use a Merlot and Cork combination for a lovely brioche cowl! And have a glass of Moscato while I’m knitting!

  • All the blues, all the time.

  • Cedar & Seaglass

  • The Citron is beautiful, but I really love Mallard.

  • Love, love, love Sea Glass

  • I’m loving shale today! Tomorrow, who knows….

  • Mallard! Bright and very wearable and would be good over black, grey, or pink!

  • Peat and tutu together, of course!

  • Wintergreen and Leek are calling my name!

  • Cedar. I am longing for snow and imagining my cedar tree trunks against the snow makes my soul sing!

  • Like you, my younger self loved the bright colors in clothing and now most of my things are more subdued. That splash of yellow is tempting but Lapis is calling.

  • Barn red. Actually any color with the word “barn” in the name.

  • Skyline and Merlot!!

  • That tutu…

  • Pear and lapis would take me out of my murky Autumn rut. Love that citron vest, looks wonderfully comfortable.

  • Truffle would be nice because I just read another Mdk article about trying black yarn. And I love the citron, it’s so far out of my comfort zone. It’d be cool to see what happens if it’s combined with pastels or even the truffle yarn in a larger palette.

  • I need the wintergreen in my life!!

  • Lapis

  • Lapis is my power color!

  • Well this got me to perusing the whole line for a while trying to pick a friend for dodgeball…..goodness the choices. ah – Peat – come on over.

  • Mouse because of the name and the warmth of the shade and Ashley I love your lemony top and wish I was brave enough to stand out in that colour.

  • Merlot snd Truffle please!

  • Merlot and navy

  • The lovely orange of clementine is calling my name!

  • Skyline and lapis. Made the blanket, love the yarn

  • Merlot

  • Clementine

  • Too hard!!! For pop it might be Pear, or maybe Clementine, but then there’s Barn Red…what to do, what to do???

  • Citron – because I am running on empty and I need a burst of lemony energy.

  • Wintergreen and Whisper get my vote

  • Congrats on the awesome vest. Lapis and wintergreen are two I would like to play with!

  • Seaglass and shale are lovely. Which is interesting to me because I’ve been making things in deeply saturated colors for about a year…

  • I love orange. The vest would be perfect in orange.

  • Lapis!!! My knitted things palette needs a color boost & this shade grabbed me by the eyeballs.

  • A beret should be red, Barn Red to be specific!

  • Barn Red, Mallard and Pear are calling my name!

  • Navy. I’m always in search of a good navy and this one is it! I see it in a great hat or even better, a sweater.

  • Lapis and Mallard!

  • Clementine would be my choice for a splash of color

  • Seagrass or whisper or cedar…can’t decide!

  • I’m loving the whisper colorway

  • I love the idea of knitting something up in cedar right now. Bring on fall!

  • Definitely Clementine. I’m so ready for fall!

  • For a dash of color, I’d do Wintergreen or Skyline, depending on the neutral it’s paired with.

  • Lapis is calling to me. It’s a true jewel.

  • Lapis. It’s very close to the color of one of my favorite dresses of all time, sadly just a memory now. So many other beautiful choices too. I’d be happy to try them all

  • As many choices as there are replies here!
With two skeins I’ll go with a high contrast colorwork neckwear…in navy and pebble.

  • Cedar and Merlot

  • Love Atlas. Pebble and Barn Red.

  • Whisper all the way but DG’s comment is giving me pause. Wish I could see them all in person!

  • Seaglass and Truffle would add beauty!!!

  • seaglass and truffle would add beauty… don’t know what happened to my first post/someone else’s name & email auto filled???

  • Clementine. I pick orange every time.

  • Pear & Lapis!

  • Pear, please!

  • I think seagrass is my favorite

  • Mallard and truffle to move toward the deep darkness of winter

  • Maybe it’s because of the turn in the weather but the orangey color of Clementine is calling to me.

  • Pear! Lapis! Citron! I’m up by the Canadian border & we’re smudging into autumn before we enter the great long monochrome. Nice vest!!!

  • Lapis. Because it’s lapis.

  • Clementine and Mallard. Love, love, love oranges and teals together, but usually do not choose them. A sad commentary on my grey, navy, dark green knitting life. Except for socks!

  • Mallard and lapis the lapis kept whispering in my ear pick me!

  • Barn red, sea glass and truffle are my favorites

  • Mallard, for sure.

  • Ashley, don’t blend in! Go bold! Excellent choice in color!

For me, it would be red. The redder the bedder.

  • Merlot — always and forever!

  • Wintergreen or Barn Red. But they are all lovely! Probably Barn Red. Hard to find a good red. Or Wintergreen. ACK!

  • I love lots of color too. My fave is always a coral or salmon shade. I like this sweater vest!

  • Lapis is my choice 🙂

  • I definitely need Mallard, and I think Seaglass…

  • I love pinks and purples, so Merlot and Tutu are the 2 colors I would put together.

  • Clementine and whisper to bring out the shy side of me. Oh my darling Clementine!….

  • Clementine or Lapis. Always orange and/or blue for me.

  • I, too, am a lover of bright colors, although I tend to wear more muted shades in real life. I would pick barn red and mallard to knit two different berets — one for me and one for my daughter!

  • lapis and pear. I’ve always loved all shades of blue and yellow colors make me happy!!

  • Black or light pink!

  • Merlot and mallard. Mmmm wine with duck!

  • Wintergreen is calling my name. Bright green looks good on me, and I have recently donated a too-big green sweater of the same color. It’s time for another bright green garment!

  • Right now I’m into more muted fall colors – so cedar, merlot and truffle speak to me. Ask me tomorrow and I may be feeling a bit brighter and desire the clementine, lapis, and mallard with a splash of pear. And next week will be the pastels – who am I kidding I love all the colors!

  • Seaglass–such a calming color,

  • Merlot and Seaglass.

  • Pear and sea glass call to me.

  • Cedar…an unusual choice for me!

  • I’m caught today by Clementine and Lapis! They have such incredible richness.

  • I am UNapologetically a lover of yellow. I think I was inspired by the yellow pottery plates my grandmother served Sunday dinner on. That must be the reason as my brother is a fanatic for yellow too. I salute your yellow vest. It’s perfectly wonderful on you.

  • Honestly, Atlas comes in a number of colors that make my heart sing. Lapis is number one. I love a deep shade of blue. Mallard, Wintergreen, and Leek all scream life and energy to me, and if I feel a need for softness, Leek will do for that, too. Whisper and Tutu are likewise gentle.

  • Barn Red is so warm and beautiful, perfect for the autumn crispness in the air.

  • Leek. No not “in your face” bright, but just the shade that describes my nestling into colder weather,
and holiday knitting. A hat and mitts would be the perfect compliment to my current mood; my coat too.

  • Mallard. Love it’s deep shade. I have blue eyes that change shades of blue depending on what I’m wearing, and this would do the trick perfectly.

  • My comment didn’t seem to work, so I’m trying again. My first thought is seaglass, but I always pick colors like that, so I’m thinking barn red.

  • Pear with Mallard. Am I crazy? I just like those 2 colors❤️

  • Seaglass!!!

  • I would love Cork and Leek – together they would make a beautiful, light winter scarf to accent my black puffer jacket!

  • Barn red and Pear are calling me…

  • I love the Seaglass but I’ve been really in to green’s lately and Peat looks right up that alley for me!

  • I think that me and Peat would be great friends. Although a beret in gray…

  • I’m not much of a splashy-type so Barn Door (so far outside my color comfort zone) would be my oh-so-daring color, along with navy.

  • Yellow is my favorite, so Citron or Pear and Lapis just looks like it would be amazing in person.

  • I love red so Barn Red would be my choice but I have too much red already stashed. Instead Cedar and Clementine are calling me, together or separately.

  • Skyline is calling my name

  • Truffle and Cedar please. Colors that remind me of a favorite beret hat that I’m sure “Someone” is enjoying right now.

  • Atlas in Lapis makes my heart happy!!!

  • Lapis and merlot

  • Definitely Wintergreen. So bright and cheerful.

  • Red beret for me, please!

  • Mallard and Seaglass, because who can choose!

    • Leek – I don’t usually use pastel colors but I think it is a perfect color for a winter accessory.
